Singer Billy Ailish has responded to accusations of racism.
In her Instagram Stories, she posted a text explaining videos in which she allegedly imitates an Asian accent and uses a derogatory word related to one of the nationalities.
She explained that she was 13 or 14 at the time and did not understand the meaning of the insulting song she was singing. Moreover, she stressed that no one in her family used the word. “Regardless of my ignorance and age at that time, nothing will change that it can cause pain. And I apologize for that, “she wrote.
Ashish denied the accusation of imitating the accent. According to her, she has been communicating with her family and pets since childhood. “I will use my opportunities to fight for inclusion, kindness, tolerance, and equality,” she concluded.
Earlier, TikTok published a video, the author of which cut videos from various streams and broadcasts of the artist – and Ailish mocks the Asian accent. Some users immediately threatened Billy with “cancellation” for racist behavior, but further local allegations have not yet progressed.
