For the brain, the normal temperature is 36.9-37.8. If we overheat, the excitation processes in the central nervous system are activated first.
If the temperature is not reduced, the nervous system is depleted and loses energy. As a result, it is difficult for us to think and make decisions, we cannot concentrate. So what to do to stay productive during the summer heat?
Cool down. If you went to work in a stuffy vehicle or were in the heat for a long time, it is best to take a cold shower. If this is not possible, you should wet your hands with cold water on your elbows, and preferably on your shoulders, wash with cold water, wet a handkerchief, and put it in the neck. This will slightly reduce the temperature.
Wear natural light clothing. In the heat, your clothes should be made of natural fabrics and loose. If you know that you will be in the sun for a long time, it is advisable to wear long-sleeved clothes so that the skin does not overheat and is protected from the sun. Synthetic clothing is better not to wear in the heat: it soars and disrupts the evaporation of sweat. And don’t forget about hats.
Monitor the water balance. The World Health Organization recommends drinking 30 milliliters of water per kilogram of body weight at normal temperatures. In hot weather, you need to drink more, depending on how you sweat, and in no case be thirsty.
Forget about coffee and tea. If you are used to drinking coffee at work to cheer up, it is better not to work in the heat, because you will lose a lot of fluids. The same goes for cold tea: it may seem as if such drinks are cooling, but, for example, green tea contains a large amount of caffeine, which activates the secretion of fluid. It is better to drink plain cool water or add lemon and mint for a refreshing feeling.
Turn on the air conditioner or fan, but be careful. If possible, use a fan or air conditioner at work. But you have to be especially careful: sharp temperature drops from 30 to 18 degrees will only hurt. It is desirable to cool the room and then turn off the air conditioner.
Don’t get carried away with ice cream. Ice cream and cold drinks do not cool the internal temperature of the core. When you eat ice cream, it warms up in the nasopharynx and gets the stomach warm.
Reduce portions of food and do not eat fried. In high heat, you need to reduce calories. Of course, someone intuitively feels that they don’t want fat and fried in the heat, but people who like it should remember that fried is a lot of calories, and the more calories we consume, the more energy and heat is released. Therefore, in the heat, it is desirable to eat light food, add more vegetables and fruits to the diet.
