Have you ever wondered how many steps you take every day?
You go to the kitchen, then go to the parking lot, go to work, spend the whole day at the table, then quickly do some shopping and you are home again. Most of us lead a sedentary lifestyle, and our activities are limited to a minimum. Do you know what the rate of steps per day is?
A walk for health
The World Health Organization recommends taking 10,000 steps every day. This is a number that allows you to stay healthy and indicates that you are in good shape. There is no doubt that the number of steps per day varies by age and health. Is it a lot or a little? For most of us, that’s a lot because it’s believed that we don’t even take half the recommended daily number of steps. A sedentary lifestyle makes walking several kilometers a day a real feat.
The daily norm of steps in the distance
It is assumed that the step of an average person has a length of 60 to 80 cm, so every day we have to walk a distance of about 6-8 km. The good news is that we include all daily activities here, i.e. the way we work, climbing the stairs, walking the dog, etc. You can also just go for an hour-long walk, during which we should take about 10,000 steps.
“10,000 steps” is a great advertising slogan, but should each of us take the same number of steps? No – this number applies only to healthy people and should be an incentive for all those chained to desks to move more. 10,000 steps are the norm of steps per day for an adult without health problems. For people suffering from obesity and chronic diseases, covering several kilometers on foot is often an impossible task. For people who hardly move, the daily dose of steps should initially range between 2,500 and 5,000 steps.
In fact, 10,000 steps is a convenient number for each of us. Physical activity is important, but to be healthy, you also need to follow a diet that can be followed even while staying in a hotel. Even if we move all day, but at the same time eat only fatty food, fast food, and sweets, unfortunately, we do not take care of our health. The same principle works in a different way – we can eat well, but if we do not exercise at all, then of course we cannot praise ourselves for a healthy lifestyle.
