The relationship between tattoos and faith, what we need to know

What is the relationship between tattoos and faith? We have always seen tattoo subjects reminiscent of the cross but just as often these are dictated more by current trends than by real faith.

Who decides to tattoo a religious symbol because he does it: by faith or because he has seen the same tattoo on some VIP? In many cases, it is the second hypothesis and this makes it clear that not always and not all attribute the sacred value that they have in everyday life to the cross or any other symbol. Therefore, there could be a very close relationship between tattoo and faith, but one must always understand the motivation that prompted a subject to want exactly that as a subject to be drawn on the skin.

Tattoos and faith: the most popular religious symbols

Crosses, but also anchors, doves, and fish: are undoubtedly the most popular symbols that, in some way, also recall the religious world. These are much-loved subjects, which are requested from tattoo artists on a regular basis. But is the main meaning always respected? Actually no, almost never. Often those who decide to have a symbol of this type tattooed do so without having full awareness of its meaning. The dove is seen as a sign of peace, but it is not always associated with Catholic symbolism and the same is true for many other symbols.

Then there is an increasingly rampant fashion that is attracting more and more proselytes. We are talking about tattoos with the face of the Madonna or saints. To launch the trend, several soccer players who, over the years, have sported sacred images or tattoos with writings dedicated to some saint or to Jesus on their calves or backs. In this case, the awareness behind the tattoo is different: here we are talking about a real message of faith and this is true at least for those who have decided to make that tattoo consciously.

The speech could, however, be different for those who decide to emulate it. In this case, the question arises: is it a tattoo done for faith or for fashion? Of course, the answers can only be given by interested parties, but what is interesting is to understand if there are those who still see a correlation between tattoos and faith. Not only. It would also be very interesting to ask who would make a tattoo to express their faith. The choice, as always, is subjective. There are those who might want to represent a message to the divine in this way and those who, on the other hand, decide to make this tattoo just for fashion. These are different points of view that, however, are always worth knowing.
